OPEN CALL: HOW WILL YOUR PROFESSION LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE?

We invite people from different fields of work to imagine what their profession will look like in the future. The responses to the survey, together with insights from experts researching the future of work, will serve as the starting point for a photography series, which we are happy to create in close collaboration with a fantastic photographer Juuso Westerlund.

The staged photographs will feature both imagined future professions and occupations that have already disappeared.

Please complete the survey by 14 December 2026 via this link.

You also have the opportunity to appear in the photography series – we are looking for volunteers! The photo shoots will take place in Hämeenlinna and the Helsinki area in spring 2027.

The online survey is connected to our solo exhibition Wormholes, which opens at the Hämeenlinna Art Museum in June 2027. In the exhibition, each artwork will be accompanied by a counterpart: we will revisit our older works by “activating their concepts” in one way or another. The photography series will be an artistic counterpart to our 2008 work I Love My Job, which explores employees’ fantasies of revenge, born out of unresolved conflicts in their workplaces.

When Wormholes opens in 2027, twenty-five years will have passed since we began working together. We feel we are at a point where we need to look back in order to see ahead. The exhibition’s title refers to the connections between the time when the artworks were created and the present moment. At the same time, it reflects the foundations of our community-based practice, which has always centred on building connections between people’s different, parallel realities.

The exhibition Wormholes, presented at the Lohrmann Building from 18 June 2027 to 2 April 2028, is part of the Hämeenlinna Art Museum’s programme marking its 75th anniversary.
